One reason GABA supplement claims deserve careful reading is that central nervous system biology is more complicated than “take GABA, increase brain GABA, reduce a symptom.” Absorption, metabolism, blood-brain-barrier questions, dose and the specific outcome being measured all matter.
Tinnitus is not simply a GABA deficiency
Tinnitus involves auditory-system and brain processes that vary between people. Reducing the condition to a single neurotransmitter story is attractive marketing because it sounds mechanistic, but a mechanism narrative is not a diagnosis and is not equivalent to proof of treatment.
When a product combines GABA with several other ingredients, the evidence question becomes even more product-specific: has that finished formulation, at those doses, demonstrated the advertised outcome?
